Find Coleman County Traffic Tickets

Start with the court named on your citation. A Coleman County traffic ticket can land in any of three offices: the countywide Justice of the Peace, Coleman Municipal Court, or Santa Anna Municipal Court, and each keeps its own files. Once you know the issuing court, the citation number and the name on the ticket will get you a court date, a plea, payments, and other entries in the case. If the online screen is missing or hard to read, a call, email, or trip to the counter will settle it. Keep in mind that this court record is separate from the state driver record DPS keeps.

Coleman County Traffic Court Records

Traffic cases in Coleman County do not sit in one office. A ticket written by a DPS trooper, a Game Warden, or the sheriff usually goes to the countywide Justice of the Peace. So does another county Class C filing. That office sits at 100 W. Liveoak, Suite 103, Coleman, reachable at 325-625-4223 or justice@co.coleman.tx.us. A City of Coleman citation belongs to Coleman Municipal Court at City Hall. Santa Anna city tickets go to Santa Anna Municipal Court.

The file is a court history, not just a bill. It can hold the citation, the plea, settings, payment or disposition, orders, and other filed items. Paying can count as a plea. Read the court's instructions before you send money. Novice has no municipal listing in the OCA directory. So for a citation with a Novice address, trust the issuing-court line on the ticket rather than the town name.

Coleman County Citation Routing

Check the agency and court printed on the citation before you mail anything. That one line keeps a request or payment from landing at the wrong counter. The same county road can produce records held by different courts.

Coleman County Justice of the Peace traffic information

The Justice of the Peace posts its own workflow, which differs from city-court instructions and from the County Clerk's payment page. Reading that office page first helps you sort the three apart.

Looking Up a Traffic Ticket

A docket search works best when you have the citation number, the case or docket number, the issuing court, the name on the ticket, and the appearance date. Coleman County offers no stable online name-search form. So call the issuing court for a current balance and setting whenever a portal gives you nothing solid.

  1. Read the court name and contact line on the citation.
  2. Keep the citation and docket numbers exactly as printed.
  3. Use that court's official page, phone, counter, mail, or email.
  4. Ask for the date, balance, plea status, and available history.
  5. Confirm the answer in writing before a deadline when possible.

Coleman County's 5 Percent Fee

Coleman Municipal Court's 2024 brochure lists a 5 percent service fee for online payment. That charge belongs to the city's payment system. It is not the price of a traffic-record copy. The brochure also gives mailing rules. Send a money order or cashier's check to P.O. Box 592, Coleman, Texas 76834, with the defendant name, citation, and case in the memo, and skip personal checks.

Keep charges separate. A service fee attached to online payment is not proof of a clerk's plain-copy or certified-copy fee.

At the JP counter, cash, money order, cashier check, and credit or debit all work. Mail payment to that office takes a cashier check or money order plus your identifying details. Amounts and methods change, so ask each issuing court what it accepts today.

How to Find Your Traffic Court Date

Your date depends on the issuing court. The JP page describes hearings Tuesday through Thursday. But a weekly pattern is never a case-specific setting. Coleman Municipal Court runs a daily walk-in docket. It links to show-cause, pretrial, and trial-setting calendars when available. Santa Anna posts no public calendar portal. Call or email that court to confirm your hearing date.

Citation NumberUse the printed identifier. Example: number as printed.
Date and TimeAsk whether this is a deadline, docket call, pretrial, or trial.
CourtConfirm JP, Coleman Municipal, Santa Anna Municipal, or another court.
LocationUse current court instructions, not the county seat alone.
StatusAsk whether the event remains set, was reset, or has an FTA note.

One JP rule deserves a note. A closure there pushes a due or appearance date to the next business day, but only under that office's instruction, not countywide. The Coleman County court dates page explains other settings.

Pay or Contest a Ticket

Paying a ticket is never a neutral act here. Full payment of a JP citation works as a no-contest plea and conviction, and Coleman Municipal Court warns that paying without seeing the judge does the same. Want a not-guilty setting, defensive driving, or deferred disposition? Contact the court first.

Failure to appear: Contact the issuing court promptly. Extra fees, a warrant, or renewal consequences may follow, and another office cannot clear the case.

Coleman County FTA and FTP

Two statutes frame these cases. Texas Code of Criminal Procedure Chapter 45A governs justice and municipal procedure, while Transportation Code Chapter 706 covers the qualifying reports tied to failure to appear or pay. Coleman Municipal Court warns of added fees, warrants, and license renewal problems. Those warnings call for a court-specific response, not a hunt for a different payment portal.

Ask the issuing court whether the file was marked failure to appear, whether you need a new plea or setting request, and when it will report an update. DPS says to resolve the status with the court and then allow three to five business days after the court reports a change. Write down the date, the staff contact, and any written confirmation.

Traffic Court Record vs Driving Record

Two different files, two different offices. The Coleman County traffic court record shows what happened to a citation in court. The Texas DPS driver record is a state licensing file with its own identity check and payment process. One does not replace the other.

Coleman County Traffic Access Channels

Traffic tickets in Coleman County run through a few offices. Justice of the Peace courts take the county cases. The JP counter works by walk-in, phone, email, or mail, and it offers forms plus a county-linked payment route. The Coleman Municipal Court handles city tickets at its counter and by phone. Mail works too, through the city page and calendar links, and with online payment. Santa Anna's court appears on the OCA list with counter, phone, fax, and email access.

re:SearchTX adds a statewide layer for participating courts. Its records and documents vary by court, though. The portal can also present an access barrier at the sign-in step. So plan on the local routes first.

Use re:SearchTX as a fallback layer, and confirm anything that matters with the issuing court.

Copies and Fees

Coleman County justice and municipal courts publish no fixed fee schedule for traffic copies. Ask the issuing court for a current quote. Say whether you need a plain or a certified copy. Give the citation or case number too. Skip the County Clerk's recorded-document charges. Those rates do not apply to a JP or municipal traffic case.

A blank result can mean a recent filing, an integration gap, a restriction, or a search of the wrong court. Texas judicial case records do not flow through the county's usual public information route. The clerk can explain the case-record process for that court. Statutes and orders still control anything restricted.

Coleman County Citation Record Checklist

Before you stop searching, check each piece against the issuing court. Bring the citation number, docket number, due date, next setting, plea, disposition, and balance. Ask a clerk for the current date. If one was given earlier, find out whether that date still shows as a reset. When a payment has posted, ask how the plea and disposition now read in the court history. A receipt proves a transaction only. The docket records the procedural effect. For copies, be specific about what you want. Do you need the docket history, citation, plea form, judgment, order, or certified record? Give a date range and your preferred delivery format. Let the issuing court quote its own fee. That keeps a County Clerk document fee, or the Coleman city online service charge, off a JP or Santa Anna request. If re:SearchTX or a county-linked vendor returns no match, run the docket search again with the clerk. A participating court's integration, stale vendor data, a recent filing, or a restriction can all hide a case. The court-held file controls the live date and status. Keep the URL and your search date, but trust written court confirmation for any deadline.

Novice Citation Routing Gap

Novice has no current municipal listing. Route a Novice-address citation through the issuing court's own line. That court may be the countywide JP or something else entirely. Do not mail it to Coleman Municipal Court just because Coleman is the county seat. And do not assume the JP controls until the citation or issuing agency says so. If the paper is unclear, call the issuing agency with the citation number and ask where the charge was filed. Use that court for the date, plea status, payment options, and copies. This gap is one practical reason to keep the whole citation in hand. Searching by city and name alone is not enough.
